WOODEN COFFEE TABLES
On these pages, you will find a selection of the hand crafted, wooden coffee tables - produced at my workshops. Each of the coffee tables displayed here is from my own original designs, purpose made, constructed from one of a variety of solid hardwoods and finished by hand.
The majority of the tables produced are oak coffee tables, but you will also find examples of maple, cherry, beech, rose gum, and yew coffee tables.
As each of the coffee tables is individually priced, made to measure, and then delivered or collected, there is generally no stock held. However, as well as ordering a table to be built to your own specific requirements, you can also order a replica of any of the coffee tables I have already built, or have one built to my design. If you click the COFFEE TABLES DESIGNS button in the left menu you can view some sketches of possible design ideas.
OAK COFFEE TABLES

further details, and larger pictures.
One of the beauties of oak coffee tables is that the quarter sawn planks (the planks sawn near the heart of the tree trunk) display the characteristic 'figure', or 'flower', as they are known, of the medullary rays. These consist of silvery markings across the grain. This gives a choice, when making the top for an oak coffee table, of choosing the normal oak grain, or the figured planks.

COFFEE TABLE RESOURCES
The
website of TheCoffeeTable.co.uk
also offers two educational sections relating to coffee tables. The
first details the design and construction process involved in making a
wooden coffee table in a small
workshop, with an added DIY project for making a
pine coffee table. These pages have been provided as an aid to
students, or for those who wish to embark on the project of making a
table for
themselves. (See links on the left)
The second offers a history of
the coffee table: the
origins and development of the coffee table. The
current entry in Wikipedia for the 'origins of the coffee table' is
based on one part of this section of the website: being a shortened
version of it.
